Manchester City have joined Tottenham in the race to sign Cody Gakpo, making an initial enquiry about the terms required to bring the Liverpool forward to the Etihad.
City are considering a late move for the Dutchman as they look to add more attacking quality following the expected departures of Savinho and Omar Marmoush to Spurs.
Gakpo’s versatility is a major attraction. The 27-year-old can play on the left wing or through the middle, while his nine goals and six assists last season underline his attacking output. He also scored in Liverpool’s opening game of the new campaign against Newcastle.
However, Liverpool are unlikely to let him leave unless they can bring in new attackers. The Reds are currently pursuing Bradley Barcola and Yankuba Minteh, which could determine Gakpo’s future.
Tottenham remain interested, but City’s late intervention could completely change the race.
