Mental Strength Key for Ng Tze Yong’s Recovery, Says Sports Psychologist

National shuttler Ng Tze Yong must be mentally prepared to endure the challenges of rehabilitation after undergoing knee surgery, according to sports psychology expert Ahmad Fadzlee Ahmad Idriss.

Tze Yong recently suffered an ACL tear during the Malaysia Masters and is expected to be sidelined for at least nine months following surgery.

Fadzlee emphasised the importance of taking rehab seriously, warning that skipping or avoiding the painful process could hinder full recovery.

“Rehab is tough and painful, but it’s essential for both physical and mental recovery. Tze Yong must be ready to push through the pain and trust the process,” he said.

He added that mental recovery is just as important as physical healing. “The first scar is in the mind, not the knee. Fear of reinjury is natural, but proper rehab will build confidence.”

Tze Yong, who has also struggled with back issues over the past year, is now facing the biggest recovery test of his career.
