Mexico goalkeeping icon Guillermo Ochoa has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to a remarkable 22-year career with El Tri.
The 40-year-old made his senior debut in 2004 and went on to become one of Mexico’s greatest-ever players. Ochoa earned more than 170 international caps and represented his country at six FIFA World Cups, setting a national record.
Throughout his career, Ochoa produced countless memorable performances, including his heroic displays against Brazil in 2014 and Germany in 2018. His reflexes, leadership and consistency made him a fan favourite and a symbol of Mexican football for more than two decades.
In his farewell message, Ochoa thanked his teammates, coaches, supporters and family for their unwavering support, describing it as an honour to wear the Mexico shirt for so many years.
His retirement marks the end of an era for El Tri, with Ochoa leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of the country’s most decorated and influential footballers.
