Ramos Fires Back as Monterrey Hold Inter in Club World Cup Clash

Sergio Ramos made his presence felt as Monterrey held Inter Milan to a 1-1 draw in their Club World Cup opener at the Rose Bowl, responding to a dismissive pre-match comment from Inter boss Christian Chivu.

Chivu admitted to knowing little about Monterrey, calling them “aggressive” with “individual quality.” Ramos used the remarks as motivation, saying, “The less they know about us, the better. Tomorrow, they’ll see what our players are capable of.”

Ramos opened the scoring with a powerful header from an Oliver Torres corner, before Lautaro Martinez equalized for Inter. Despite dominating possession, the Italians couldn’t find a winner.

Ramos emphasized the importance of focus and effort in every moment. “Competing with dignity and honour is the minimum this club expects,” he said.

He also spoke about Mexican football’s untapped potential, pointing to areas like mindset and professionalism as key to its growth. With Latin American teams showing early intensity, the Club World Cup may finally be gaining serious traction outside Europe.
