Wayne Rooney says “it hurts” to watch Manchester United in their current state, with the club languishing in 14th after a 3-1 defeat to Brentford.

United’s all-time top scorer, who won five Premier League titles during his Old Trafford career, admitted he no longer recognises the team and slammed the lack of character compared to legends like Roy Keane and Paul Scholes.
Rooney, now 39, revealed his biggest regret is that his own children — both in the club’s youth system — have barely seen United succeed.
“My kids don’t know what Man Utd being successful is. I want them to see that. The culture of that football club has gone. What I’m seeing is not Manchester United.”
