PSG Retain Super Cup

Paris Saint-Germain retained the UEFA Super Cup with a narrow 2-1 victory over Aston Villa in Salzburg.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in the 20th minute, but Villa’s 17-year-old debutant Brian Madjo equalised just before half-time with a superb volley.

Madjo became the youngest scorer in Super Cup history after finally being cleared to play following an eight-month registration dispute.

PSG regained the lead in the 62nd minute through Desire Doue, whose goal survived a VAR offside check. Villa pushed for another equaliser but could not find a way past the French champions.

The victory gives PSG back-to-back Super Cup titles, while Unai Emery suffered his fourth defeat in the competition’s final.

The match also saw Somali referee Omar Artan make history as the first non-European official to referee the UEFA Super Cup.
