Ronaldo Walkout Leaves Portugal Future in Doubt

Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal’s training camp after talks with Portuguese Football Federation president Pedro Proença, leaving his international future uncertain.

The 41-year-old had started against Wales but was an unused substitute in Portugal’s 2-1 win over Norway, ending an 18-year streak of always appearing when named in the matchday squad. Ronaldo later announced that he had left the camp and said he would reveal the reasons “in time.”

Portugal have since beaten Denmark 4-2, with Jorge Jesus insisting the squad remains united and that the result is more important than the controversy surrounding Ronaldo. Jesus also did not rule on Ronaldo’s return, instead focusing on Portugal’s next match.

Ronaldo remains Portugal’s record goalscorer with 146 goals in 234 appearances. Whether this latest fallout marks a temporary break or the beginning of the end of his international career remains unclear.
